Last week I attended a conference on integrated transport, organised by Innovate UK Business Connect, in Manchester. There were several sessions, and during each I aimed to capture the salient points into A1 or A2 sized hand-drawn graphics. I produced several of these during the day, each covering different topics, albeit with some overlap in the content. This was a bit of a gamble, as I had to be responsive to various and sometimes conflicting subjects and interests, and it certainly kept me on my toes throughout the day.
Afterwards, I was given an additional commission, to produce a summary graphic for distribution to all the delegates. This includes most of the elements discussed at the conference, and shows the ideas and concerns expressed on the day, and how they interrelate. The individual sketches were drawn in Sketchbook Pro on my Surface tablet, and placed on a large canvas in Photoshop. This meant that I could fine-tune the positionings; once this was done, I returned the file to Sketchbook and hand-wrote the captions - this meant that it could keep something of the feel of the energy of the day and the style of the hand-drawn boards.
I got this feedback from the client: Wow, beautiful! And very comprehensive in terms of being able to look at it (as an outsider who wasn't in the room), and to be able to visualise the breadth of transportation discussion and the interconnectedness of it all.
The first image is of the summary graphic, with the remainder being the individual boards produced on the day.
